Narwhal Sculpture 7in Long Pellucida on Burlwood
The Narwhal is thought to have given rise to the myth of the unicorn. Narwhal tusks found their way into mediaeval Europe where perhaps unscrupulous traders sold them as the horn of the mystical four legged beast.
The real Narwhal is almost as amazing as any unicorn. The males fight using their tusks like mediaeval knights with lances, sometimes to the death.
The tusk, actually a modified incisor tooth, almost always occurs in the male. Rarely, males have two.
The Narwhal itself is about 6 inches long and, mounted on its polished burlwood base, stands about 7 inches tall.
It is molded of Pellucida, our proprietary resin compound that resembles but is more durable than Bisque porcelain.
The horn is detachable as they sometimes get broken or, amazingly, get chewed by cats. It comes with a spare horn.
PLEASE NOTE: these photos are of illustrative samples only. Each burl is a piece of nature's art, so the one you will receive will be different, but of similar size and comparable beauty.
It is SIGNED and comes with a CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY.
OVERSEAS CUSTOMERS please note additional import duty and taxes may be due on arrival. Also note that we cannot mark as a gift in order to avoid these cost.
